Third-Party Repair of Atchley Jet Pipe Servovalves

Independent third-party repair of Atchley Controls jet pipe servovalves: 211 Series, 213 Series, and turbine control valves used on gas turbine and steam turbine packages. Atchley pioneered the jet pipe servovalve and the technology still defines the line; the brand sits under Moog today. Backed by a 19,000+ unit in-house inventory we pull aftermarket and donor parts from. NC Servo is not affiliated with Atchley Controls or Moog. Working on this kind of hardware since 1975.

Jet Pipe Anatomy

What's actually inside an Atchley jet pipe servovalve

Raymond Atchley's jet pipe is what makes this brand distinct from a flapper-nozzle servovalve. A small pivoting jet pipe steers hydraulic fluid into one of two receiver ports; the differential pressure that creates moves the spool. The repair work focuses on three stages.

1. Pilot stage The pivoting jet pipe and its drive coil. Cleaning, jet alignment, and trim against documented procedures.
2. Receiver stage The two receiver ports that catch the jet. Inspection for wear, contamination, and erosion of the receiver geometry.
3. Spool and sleeve The driven spool-sleeve assembly. Wear inspection, lap restoration, and seal kit before reassembly.

Service Coverage

What NC Servo does with an Atchley servovalve

Atchley Controls valves are mostly turbine control hardware, and they tend to live a long time on governor and trip duty. The shop opens each unit, finds what failed, and rebuilds it at the component level using parts from inventory or pulled off donor units when needed.

211 Series jet pipe

211 Series Atchley jet pipe servovalves used on industrial and turbine control applications. Pilot stage cleaning, receiver work, spool-sleeve service, and bench testing.

213 Series jet pipe

213 Series Atchley jet pipe servovalves on similar duty. Same internal stages; different sizing and porting. Donor parts pulled from inventory for older units.

Turbine control valves

Atchley governor and trip valves off gas turbine and steam turbine packages. Body, spool, and pilot stage work. Re-certification and turbine-specific commissioning stay with the customer or OEM.

Atchley Series

Atchley series through the door

We are a small repair shop, not an Atchley distributor. The series below are simply the ones that come through often enough to be familiar. If your part number is not on this list, send it anyway. We work on what we can.

211 Series Atchley 211 Series jet pipe servovalves. Discontinued and current units kept in service with donor parts pulled from inventory.
213 Series Atchley 213 Series jet pipe servovalves used on industrial control and turbine governor applications.
Turbine control bodies Larger Atchley control valves for gas and steam turbine packages, often paired with the 211 / 213 jet pipe pilots.

Common Faults

What usually shows up on an Atchley repair

A description of the symptom helps the diagnosis, but a part number or photo is often enough. The categories below cover the kinds of trouble that come in across Atchley jet pipe servovalves.

Jet pipe pilot stage Jet nozzle plugging, jet misalignment after a contamination event, pilot-pressure null shift, or wear on the jet pipe pivot.
Receiver stage Receiver port erosion, wear on receiver geometry, contamination scoring, or differential-pressure imbalance between the two receivers.
Spool and sleeve Spool wear, sleeve scoring, sticky spool action, or internal leakage past the spool on units in service for decades.
Coil and electrical Burned drive coils, open windings, damaged connectors, or cable strain at the entry point on legacy turbine installs.

Repair Path

From part number to ship-back

Most Atchley jobs follow the same four steps. Lead time varies because some repairs need parts pulled off a donor unit, so we only commit to timing once a tech has the valve on the bench.

Get in touch

Phone or email with the Atchley part number, what turbine or machine it came off, and a photo of the nameplate if it helps.

Bench review

Once the unit arrives, a tech opens it, inspects the jet pipe, receivers, and spool-sleeve, and runs it on the hydraulic stand to confirm what failed.

Cost & approval

We call back with the cost and a rough turnaround. Nothing happens without your sign-off.

Repair, test, ship

Failed components are replaced from inventory or off donors, the valve is verified under pressure, and the unit ships back.

Bench Verification

Each Atchley unit gets pressurized before ship

Repaired Atchley jet pipe servovalves are checked on the hydraulic test stands before they leave. Flow, pressure gain, response, and null are verified against documented procedures for the family.

  • Flow characterization across the operating range for the 211 and 213 series.
  • Pressure gain and step-response measurement against documented procedures.
  • Internal and external leakage checked after seal and spool work.
  • Null bias trim where the family calls for it.

Inventory & Parts Pool

A 19,000+ unit pool with Atchley hardware in it

NC Servo's in-house inventory holds over 19,000 valves and drives accumulated since 1975, including a steady share of Atchley 211 and 213 series jet pipe servovalves. That pool is where the shop pulls aftermarket parts and donor components for older Atchley units that the OEM no longer stocks.

  • Aftermarket and donor parts for Atchley 211 / 213 jet pipe servovalves.
  • If we have a rebuilt match for your part number, trade in your old valve for a discount on the rebuilt.
  • No match on the shelf? We can suggest a comparable Atchley or cross-brand option, or repair yours.
  • Rebuilt valves carry the same 1-year warranty as a fresh repair.

Repair Scope

Where the line is on an Atchley repair

NC Servo works on the servovalve hardware: the body, spool-sleeve, jet pipe pilot stage, receiver stage, and coils. Hydraulic system design, fluid selection, turbine package re-certification, and getting the valve back on the machine stay with your team or the turbine OEM.

  • Internal valve work: spool service, sleeve restoration, jet pipe alignment, coil rebuild.
  • Receiver stage inspection and rework where receiver wear is identified.
  • Turbine governor / trip re-certification, if required, is handled by the customer or turbine OEM.
  • Putting the valve back on the machine follows your normal startup process.

Atchley jet pipe valve down?

Give us a call with the 211 / 213 series part number, a photo of the nameplate, or a quick description of the turbine or machine. We will check the shelf, and if we have a rebuilt match you can swap your old one for a discount. If we do not, we can suggest a comparable valve or repair the one you have.

FAQ

Common questions about Atchley repair

A few things customers ask before sending a unit in. Anything not covered, give us a call at 734-326-6666.

Is NC Servo affiliated with Atchley Controls or Moog?

No. NC Servo Technology is an independent, third-party repair facility and is not affiliated with, authorized by, or endorsed by Atchley Controls, Moog Inc., or any related entities. All Atchley and Moog trademarks are the property of their respective owners.

Which Atchley servovalve models do you cover?

Atchley 211 Series and 213 Series jet pipe servovalves and turbine control valves. Send the part number off the nameplate and we will tell you what we have.

Is Atchley still its own company?

No. Atchley Controls is part of Moog now. Older Atchley-labeled hardware is still in service on gas turbines, steam turbines, and industrial machines, and we work on those alongside any units that came through after the Moog transition.

Do you work on gas turbine and steam turbine control valves?

Yes. The 211 and 213 series jet pipe valves we see most often are governor and trip valves on gas turbine and steam turbine packages. We rebuild the jet pipe pilot stage, receiver stage, and spool-sleeve assembly on the bench.

How long does an Atchley repair take?

It varies. NC Servo is a small independent shop, and lead time depends on the valve, what is wrong with it, and whether parts have to come off a donor unit. Give us a call once the unit ships in, and we can give a current estimate after a tech has looked at it.

What if the Atchley valve is beyond economic repair?

If the valve is not fixable, we will let you know and help source a replacement: a rebuilt match if we have one on the shelf, or a comparable Atchley or cross-brand alternative.

What is the warranty on an Atchley repair?

One year on parts and workmanship for repairs and rebuilt units. Standard exclusions apply for contamination, improper installation, and out-of-spec operation. Flushing and filtering the hydraulic system before reinstalling a repaired valve is recommended.
