Third-Party Woodward Servo Valve Repair

Component-level repair of 27-series servovalves that arrive with a Woodward, Woodward HRT, or HR Textron nameplate. The part number tells us the family, whether it is a 27G50F, 27E50F, 27B50F, 27A50F, or another 27-series unit. The work happens on our own hydraulic test stands in Westland, Michigan, where the shop has been repairing servovalves since 1975.

Matched by part number Whatever name is on the tag, the 27-series number is what we work from.

Reading the Nameplate

Same 27-series numbers, different name on the tag

Customers send these valves in under several names. The nameplate, the purchase records, and the machine manual may each say something different. The 27-series part number is the part that stays consistent, so that is what we go by.

  • Tags reading Woodward, Woodward HRT, or HR Textron are handled the same way on the bench.
  • The base number, such as 27G50F or 27E50F, identifies the family.
  • The suffix after the dash, such as -4A04-999, records the configuration. Send it along with the base number.
  • For the technical background on jet pipe, nozzle flapper, and direct-drive types, see our HR Textron servovalve page.

27-Series Families

Woodward-tagged 27-series valves on the bench

We are a small repair shop, not a Woodward distributor. These are some of the families NC Servo has repaired, along with 27C-series and other 27-series units. If your number is not listed, send it anyway.

27G50F and 27G30F 27G-series servovalves. Send the full number with its suffix, for example 27G50F-5F06-999, so the configuration can be matched.
27E50F two-stage Two-stage servovalves with mechanical feedback. Numbers such as 27E50F-4A04-999 come up regularly in quote requests.
27B50F jet pipe Jet pipe pilot-stage servovalves, including variants like 27B50F-2B02G-999 and 27B50F-4D02-995.
27A50F nozzle flapper Nozzle flapper pilot-stage servovalves, including variants like 27A50F-4K02C.

Common Faults

Why a 27-series valve usually comes in

A short note on how the valve was behaving helps, but it is not required. These are the kinds of trouble that tend to send a 27-series valve to the bench.

Drift or instability The actuator wanders off position or hunts around it, often traced to pilot-stage contamination or a null shift.
Slow or sticky response Spool wear or scoring from dirty fluid, which also tends to show up as higher internal leakage.
No response An open or shorted coil, a damaged connector, or wiring damage at the valve.
Leaks and damage Hardened seals, external leakage, a damaged housing, or signs of an earlier repair attempt.

Repair Path

How a Woodward-tagged valve gets repaired

Lead time varies job to job, mostly depending on whether parts have to come off a donor unit. We give an estimate once a tech has the valve open.

Send the number

Call or email with the 27-series part number and whatever you know about the symptom.

Teardown and test

A tech runs the valve on a hydraulic stand, then opens it to find what failed.

Your go-ahead

The office calls back with what the repair will cost. Work starts only after you approve it.

Rebuild and ship

Worn parts are replaced, the valve is checked under pressure again, and it ships back to you.

Rebuilt Units

Sometimes a rebuilt 27-series unit is on the shelf

NC Servo keeps valves from past jobs in a pool of over 19,000 valves and drives, and 27-series units are part of it. Stock varies, so it is best to call about a specific part number.

  • If a rebuilt match is on the shelf, you can trade in your old valve toward it.
  • No match? We can repair the valve you have.
  • Rebuilt units carry the same one-year warranty as a repair.
  • This page covers servovalves only. Woodward governors, actuators, and turbine control electronics are outside what NC Servo works on.

Woodward servo valve acting up?

Send the 27-series number off the tag, or a photo if the tag is hard to read. We will check the shelf for a rebuilt match and let you know what a repair of yours would involve.

FAQ

Common questions about Woodward servo valve repair

Anything not covered here, give us a call at 734-326-6666.

Is NC Servo affiliated with Woodward or HR Textron?

No. NC Servo Technology is an independent, third-party repair facility and is not affiliated with, authorized by, or endorsed by Woodward, Inc., HR Textron, Textron Inc., or any related entities.

My valve says HR Textron, not Woodward. Is that the same thing to you?

For repair purposes, yes. We work from the 27-series part number, so send that number whichever name is on the tag.

Do you repair Woodward governors or turbine controls?

No. NC Servo works on the 27-series servovalves only. Governors, actuators, and turbine control electronics are outside the shop's scope.

How long does a repair take?

It varies. Lead time depends on the valve, what failed, and whether parts have to come off a donor unit. We can give a current estimate once a tech has looked at it.

What if the valve cannot be repaired?

We will tell you, and if a rebuilt match is on the shelf you can trade your old valve in toward it.

What is the warranty?

One year on parts and workmanship for repairs and rebuilt units. Standard exclusions apply for contamination, improper installation, and out-of-spec operation. Flushing and filtering the hydraulic system before reinstalling a repaired valve is recommended.
